A 50-year-old businessman, Ahmed Echodo who allegedly led the police in a false search of the residence of Deputy Senate President, Ike Ekweremadu has been granted bail.

A Gudu Upper Area Court, Abuja, granted Echodo bail in the sum of N500,000 to Echoda, who was previously remanded in Keffi Prison, Nasarawa State.

In granting him reprieve, the judge, Alhaji Umar Kagarko, also ordered the defendant‎ to provide one surety who must reside within the court’s jurisdiction and adjourned the case until July 20 for hearing.
Following a tip off by Echodo, the police had conducted a search on Ekweremadu’s property on May 27, before the information turned out to be false.

When the case came up in court, the defendant pleaded not guilty to a False Information Report.

However the presiding Chief Upper Area Court judge, Umar Kagarko, ordered that Echodo be remanded in prison until ruling on his bail application is decided on June 5.
